Key benchmark indices began the day’s trade with fair gains tracking firmness in Asian stocks. The BSE Sensex rose over 250 points and the Nifty 50 index gained over 70 points in early trade.
Shares of Tata Steel, Bharti Airtel, ONGC, Sun Pharma, Axis Bank, L&T Hero MotoCorp, Yes Bank, Kotak Bank, Adani Ports, Dr Reddy’s and Reliance Industries were the major gainers among Sensex constituents rising in range 1 to 3 perccent.
In Nifty pack, shares of Tata Steel, ONGC, Axis Bank Larsen & Toubro, Hero MotoCorp and Aurobindo Pharma were among the top gainers. On the other hand shares of SBI, Bharat Petroleum Corporation HCL Technologies, HPCL and Coal India were among the losers in the Nifty pack.
Shares of SBI witnessed a sharp decline after reporting weaker than expected Q3 numbers with a net loss of Rs 1,886.57 crore, in effect the SBI’s stock plunged as over 3% to a day’s low of Rs 285.
The stocks of GAIL India, Bank of India, Britannia Industries, Indian Hotels, and Power Finance Corp will be in close watch ahead of their respective third quarter results due later today.
The BSE Sensex was trading at 34,188.97 up 183 points, while the Nifty50 index was trading at 10,500, up 52 points in later morning deals.
