Investment Advisory, Stock Indices open flat, PSU banks rise, IT companies slip

happy new year Sensex, Nifty started the New Year 2018 on a subdued note, opening flat due to lack of major triggers in the morning session. The BSE Sensex was trading at 34,085, up 28.59 points, while the Nifty 50 was ruling at 10,534.55, up 3.85 points in later morning hours. The BSE Midcap & Small-cap indices were up 0.4% and 0.5%, respectively.

Shares of I.T companies pressured to profit booking, as the Nifty IT index slipped 0.5 percent in early trade, led by near 1 percent losses in Tech Mahindra, TCS and Wipro stocks.

Shares of IndiaBulls Housing Finance rose 3%, SBI rose 0.79%, Indian Oil Corporation rose 0.78%), BPCL rose 0.73% and Airtel gained 0.63% as the top gainers on Nifty50, whereas shares of Infratel, Wipro, TCS, Hindalco and Bajaj Auto were the top losers in today’s trade.

The Nifty PSU Bank index rose 0.4 percent, led by shares of Bank of India, which spiked 4% on Rs22.6-billion capital infusion, while Shares of automobile companies were mostly mixed as the auto sector companies unveil their sales figures of December month, later today.

Strong market breadth; Sensex gains nearly 230 points, Nifty reclaims 10,119

At 10.50 am, the BSE Sensex jumped 236.72 points to hit the day’s high of 32,833.90 while NSE Nifty edged up 74.90 points to mark the day’s high at 10,119.00. Investors mostly felt to get a relief after macro-economic ridden week ended on Wednesday with RBI fifth bi-monthly monetary policy keeping the repo rate unchanged at 6 percent.

Metal mostly rose with Hindustan Copper (up 2.38%), SAIL (up 1.71%), JSW Steel (up 1.40%), Jindal Steel (up 1.36%), Tata Steel (up 1.23%), Bhushan Steel (up 0.98%), nalco (up 0.92%), among others.

All the sectoral stocks of NSE have traded in the green with Nifty Auto, Metal, Realty, and PSU Bank index leading the gains.

Shares of Tata Steel, NTPC, Hero MotoCorp, Maruti, L&T and Bajaj Auto were leading the charge while shares of Wipro, Sun Pharma, and RIL falling a little in the early trades.

The heavyweight shares of State Bank of India, L&T, Maruti Suzuki, ICICI Bank contributed the most to the Sensex gains.

The BSE Sensex surged 377.48 points to 33,483.30, while the NSE Nifty50 gained 117.75 points to 10,332.50 at 10:45 hours. The markets are risen higher by the banking stocks, which rose by 1.7% on back of Moody’s report on upgrade of Indian Govt bond rating. Punjab National Bank, ICICI Bank, Bank of Baroda, State Bank of India were gaining in the morning hours.

FMCG companies’ stocks in focus today as the govt has approved setting up of the proposed National Anti-profiteering Authority under GST to ensure consumers get the advantage of lower taxes under the new indirect tax implementation.

Bank of Baroda: BoB said the Finance Committee of the board will meet next week to consider approving its proposal to raise Rs. 6,000 crore via Qualified Institutional placement or rights issue.
Bharti Airtel: Fair trade regulator Competition Commission of India has approved Bharti Airtel’s deal to take over the loss-making consumer mobile business of the Tata Group.
